Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow
Book summery :-
Yuval Noah Harari, author of the critically-acclaimed New York Times bestseller and international phenomenon Sapiens, returns with an equally original, compelling, and provocative book, turning his focus toward humanity’s future, and our quest to upgrade humans into gods.
Over the past century humankind has managed to do the impossible and rein in famine, plague, and war. This may seem hard to accept, but, as Harari explains in his trademark style—thorough, yet riveting—famine, plague and war have been transformed from incomprehensible and uncontrollable forces of nature into manageable challenges. For the first time ever, more people die from eating too much than from eating too little; more people die from old age than from infectious diseases; and more people commit suicide than are killed by soldiers, terrorists and criminals put together. The average American is a thousand times more likely to die from binging at McDonalds than from being blown up by Al Qaeda.
What then will replace famine, plague, and war at the top of the human agenda? As the self-made gods of planet earth, what destinies will we set ourselves, and which quests will we undertake? Homo Deus explores the projects, dreams and nightmares that will shape the twenty-first century—from overcoming death to creating artificial life. It asks the fundamental questions: Where do we go from here? And how will we protect this fragile world from our own destructive powers? This is the next stage of evolution. This is Homo Deus.
With the same insight and clarity that made Sapiens an international hit and a New York Timesbestseller, Harari maps out our future

From the consciousness of a chimp who knows to hide his feces so that people come closer whereupon he can fling it at them to value of Bach, from religion to corporations, from humanism to Google’s self-driving cars, the book covers a lot of ground. Even if you disagree with the possibilities that Harari poses (and admits that they are only possibilities), there is a lot of scientific evidence as well as socio-economic and philosophical matter on display and for the reader to explore.
The writing is smooth and transitions from one topic to another are seamless and logical. The illustrations are apt and provide much material for thought.
Unlike Sapiens, Homo Deus is geared more towards presentation of ideas and their exploration rather than opting for one inference over another. This, in my opinion, makes HD a better book than Sapiens and allows readers to actually hear out the facts, experiments and possible scenarios that Harari wants them to consider.
At the cost of repeating myself, I think this book is great for exploring different perspectives and the rationale for the same. It provides good information (most of which can be verified, for those who are interested). It is easy to read and understand. The book will 100% broaden your horizon, increase your awareness or introduce you to new thought process. However, at the end of the day, the book is not the truth in itself or the conclusions that it’s author derives. It is a tool, that is all. One that I highly recommend.
The Book: The book has a good quality cover paper with matte finish. It is a heavy book and it has to be with lovely heavy bright white-hued inner pages with sharp and legible printing. The font size is good and spacing just about perfect. The binding seems to protect the spine well. For INR 357 at amazon.in from MRP of 799, this ‘printed and bound in Italy’ book with it’s ideas is a MUST HAVE for everybody.Amazon Reader
